The fall in the first four months has reached 30%, according to figures released by Hacienda, the Spanish Tax Authority.
The concept of registration tax collection stood at 23.2 million euros during the month of April, representing a decrease of 22.8% compared to the same month in 2012, according to the tax agency information gathered by Europa Press.
Although the fall of fundraising for this assessment is moderated over previous months, the trend continues downward while the registrations of cars rose 10.8 percent in April, with 62.317 units.
This situation is explained by the orientation of the demand towards more efficient automobiles, which are taxed at lower rates and are even exempt from registration tax, as well as the continuous fall in the price of cars.
In fact, at the end of the first four months of the year, the average price for the new automobile, taxes included, stood at 15.685 euros, which translates into a 5.16% decrease with respect to the 16.549 euros in the same period of 2012.
Fall of 30% in the quarter
In the first four months of the year, the registration tax contributed to the coffers of the autonomous communities 88,75 million euros, which represents a strong 30.3% reduction in relation to the first quarter of the previous year.
Thus, the mean quota paid by drivers who bought a car between last April and January was 423 euros, 28.2% less than the 589 euros registered in the same period from 2012.
On the positive side, emphasizes the continuous decrease of CO2 emissions of new cars, which went from 132 grams per kilometre in the first quarter of 2012 to 125 grams in the first four months of this year, with a drop of 5.3%.
