While nowadays there are many different options for those who want to keep in touch across borders – the eponymous Skype springs to mind – not all of us are computer buffs nor are at home when we need to call and would prefer the use of a phone.
So one offer that particularly catches the eye and should be of interest to readers living in Spain or who need to keep in contact with someone living there, is the company Rebtel which offers cut-price international calls from your mobile or fixed-line phone and functions just as much when making calls to Spain as from it.
From Rebtel’s blurb:
“Rebtel is the world’s largest independent mobile VoIP company. Rebtel customers can use any phone to call anywhere in the world for just pennies per minute. There are no monthly fees, no connection fees, or hidden costs to use Rebtel. Try now, first call Free!”
Also according to the company, there is no need for apps or PIN codes, special SIM cards or 3G/WiFi connections which would make the thing too complicated to be worth bothering with for most.
A quick check of their website showed calls to UK landlines from a Spanish mobile to be 0.008€ (less than one cent) per minute and 0.119€ to UK mobiles. This compares pretty favorably with the cost of Spanish mobile-to-mobile calls so is not be sneezed at.
You can confirm these rates and get more info using the rate calculator below (all new users get 5 minutes worth of free calls, apparently):
