  2. Citizenship confers the right on the holder to reside and work – not just in France - but in any EU country. Also, citizens have the right to vote, as well as the plethora of rights typically conferred on citizens of a country. You may apply if you find yourself in any of the following groups:
    1. You were born abroad, and you have lived in France legally for a minimum of 5 years
    2. You marry a French citizen and remain married for a minimum of 4 years
    3. By simpler declaration process if you are over the age of 65 and are the parent or grandparent of French children, and have lived here for 25 years
  3. Please note that there do exist some special rules and limitations, so you should discuss the matter with an immigration lawyer to make sure you are eligible.
